Meet the Founder
Jodene M. Louw
South African PR Professional

Jodene M. Louw is a public relations and communications graduate from the University of Johannesburg. As part of her graduation requirements, she secured an internship at Printacom (OKI South Africa) in early 2014. Her very first interview (with OKI) led straight to that internship, which began on 3 February 2014.

Louw started as a Public Relations and Marketing Assistant, and despite initial nerves (her first day famously began with a rain-soaked, late arrival), she quickly proved herself. Just weeks into the role, she was given a performance review with a list of expected deliverables (one PR campaign, a dozen blog posts, a social media strategy, and some press releases). She over-delivered – completing four PR campaigns, 19 blog pieces, multiple social media angles, and a dozen press releases in that short time. This work ethic impressed her supervisors, to the point that when her internship was due to end in June 2014, her manager emailed to extend her contract until November, saying “our team would not be the same without you”.

Louw has reflected that this early experience taught her invaluable lessons in time management, confidence, and proactively sharing ideas as a young PR practitioner. By the time she finished her internship, she had firmly transitioned from “PR student” to “PR practitioner,” as she later recounted in an industry article.

Professional Roles and Career Progression

After gaining in-house PR experience at OKI South Africa, Jodene Louw broadened her horizons by moving into agency public relations. According to her professional bio, she decided to experience agency PR, joining a global communications firm as an Account Executive to further develop her skills (managing client accounts and campaigns). In this agency role, she worked on larger-scale PR projects and honed her expertise in media relations, content creation, and campaign strategy for a diverse client base. Her time in agency life added to the corporate experience she had from OKI, giving her a well-rounded perspective on both the client/corporate and agency sides of PR.

Building on these experiences, Louw eventually founded her own PR consultancy, Mastered Communications, where she serves as the founder and lead communications strategist. Mastered Communications is positioned as a public relations and communications firm that helps clients “communicate your dream to the world,” offering services tailored to client needs. As the founder, Louw channels her passion for all things PR into guiding communication strategies for various organizations. Her leadership at Mastered Communications allows her to craft campaigns and mentor teams with the benefit of her broad experience in both corporate and agency environments.

Through Mastered Communications, she has overseen campaigns for her own clients, focusing on crafting tailored communication strategies (ranging from publicity campaigns to content marketing, according to the firm’s offerings).
